Hockey Cake for Levi

We had a lovely family barbeque at home to celebrate our hockey-loving two year old’s birthday. Happy Birthday my little Levi!
Pure Paper Extract started this
blog to document and reflect on
the dessert and design projects
that have come and gone over
the years. It's my hope that it
will become much more a
documentation of life, food,
inspiration, design, details
and adventures in the
Hainstock house.

Otis’ love of tractors still remains strong, but jellybeans are a close second. This years birthday cake was a simple marriage of the two. Who would have guessed that jellybeans are pretty good with cake and icing. I also made some yummy vegan ice cream cone cupcakes. I’ll have to make them again to get a photograph, super easy and pretty much as healthy as a brownie can get. Lots of fun was had filling Otis’s new aquarium with fish from friends, thanks again for making his birthday so fun… now we have pets!
Transformed from a few boxes with the assistance of Dad and makedo, Otis became Obot the robot. Lots of fun was had and continues.

Last year we hand-made all the kids presents… but didn’t quite get all of them done. A whole year later and we gifted this to my goalie nephew Michael. He deserves a medal for MVP, Michael indeed is very patient!
This gift is extra special, made from Uncle Britt’s saved goalie mini-stick’s from over 20 years ago. The finishing touch to the medallion hanger was vinyl letters of his full name. We hope Michael can hang his medals in his room and be reminded of how proud we are of him and his achievements!
Please come by and visit my etsy store. I’ll be adding more items soon.
It all started with the mention of sharing a table with a close friend… and now I am participating in this amazing craft sale with a bunch of products that I’ve been dreaming of and NOW are producing. The sale is called the WCV Christmas Craft Sale and over 60 vendors will be there. Please visit the website at www.vineyardcraftsale.com
WCV CHRISTMAS CRAFT SALE:
Saturday, November 26, 2011 | 10AM to 4PM
Winnipeg Centre Vineyard, 782 Main Street at Sutherland
Admission $2 | Children 14 and under FREE | Free on-site parking
I would love to see you there. Please bring a friend or family member. There is a café where you can grab a cup of coffee or enjoy a cinnamon bun or lunch (soup or chili). Besides coming to the event what also would mean a lot to me, is if you could take a moment and share this information with your friends and family. This sale runs solely on word of mouth.
Here is a peek at the line of kitchen-wear/decor & paper goods I’m working on and will be available to purchase! Britt and I have become quite the screen printing team with runs of 100 for the onesies and dish towels. Pictures of children’s and adult aprons to come and a few more products.
These will be available on my etsy store after November 26th, until then I am in production mode. Contact me if you are seriously interested though. :)

I am so thrilled that my dear friends Sumi & Hum are expecting a baby. Here is the baby shower invitation and print that I designed for them.

In a long process of getting Otis to commit to a costume idea, an owl was decided upon and a quick transformation of his brown hoodie was made by Britt and I. Levi “got to” wear the Mousey costume from when Otis was one year old. It seems appropriate as they are now starting to really prey on one another, to my dismay.

I will admit that most of my muffins don’t turn out this pretty. So on this rare occasion that it has happens, I am happy to share with you this somewhat healthy muffin. I tend to not share a fair amount of my baking online due to the experimental approach I take in trying to use more wholesome and organic ingredients. They often turn out for consumption but aren’t as beautiful in nature. I am leaning towards taking a more healthful approach to presenting recipes that are wholesome and look and taste delicious. RECIPE TO COME…

I’ve been reminiscing about the summer and our family fireside experiences. I thought I’d try Martha Stewart’s version of the S’mores cookies and see how it fairs. Not exactly the real deal, but pretty fantastic.

Thanksgiving just wouldn’t seem right without pumpkin pie. This from-scratch recipe is spiced with cinnamon, cloves, and ginger making a perfectly smooth and balanced custard filling. The real secret though is not eating too much turkey dinner and saving enough room to truly savor dessert.
Over the past while my husband and I have been doing some silk-screening at home in order to give hand-made gifts to friends and their growing families. This “Spilt Milk” design was initially intended for a little baker’s apron, but we are also pretty pleased with the onesies. What can I say, babies love milk, spilling stuff, and crying! So, help a mother out by voting for it and maybe we can at least stop the crying.
Voting ends this Wednesday at Threadless.com, so please help make this design a winner! A Threadless account is required to vote, but it’s real quick and easy.

I have submitted a design to Threadless in hopes that my design will score well and get printed, plus there is a nice little cash bundle and prizes. You can help me get my design printed by going to Threadless and scoring it. Thanks in advance!
